Step - 7 Update #5
Hi Everyone,
I am still focusing on my job search and that is why I have not been posting as frequently as I had been. Anyway the search is going slow. I did get a commitment for a second interview with one of the opportunities.
One of the problems I am having is that many of the opportunities require online resume submission. You never know if anyone even sees your resume in this process. I can't help but feeling that if I could speak to an actual person I would be able to get my foot in the door.
If any of you have been in this situation and have any tricks or suggestions as to how to get to a live person please leave a comment and let me know. It would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!!!!
Anyway, on to the update. I found a penny by the self check out at the Quick Check this morning. Gotta love the self check out lines, there always seems to be change on the floor close to them. I added this to the stake for Step 7.

What I have been up to.
Hi Everyone,
Have not found anything to add to the stake since the last update. As discussed I have been wading through some of the free internet marketing info I have received looking for the nuggets of valuable info. I came across some instructional videos describing how to easily set up a blog, monetize it with adsense, and drive some traffic to it. I have set one up as a test to see if it works. I will not tell you what it is just yet as I want to see if traffic will get there on its own. So far it is getting page impressions but no clicks on the adds. I am going to give it some time and then report back to you. If it works I will summarize the technique so you can try it out yourselves.
The second thing I have been up to is looking for a job. As I previously mentioned I am out of work and I really need to put most of my energy into finding the next job. This brings me back to the "Off Kilter" project I mentioned a while back.
I will be setting up another blog to serve as the "hub" for my off kilter project. In a nutshell I have realized that most of my big accomplishments in life happened when I was focused on that one item. The rest of my life was somewhat out of balance during these times, hence the name "Off Kilter".
This got me thinking that all this talk about balancing your life doesn't work for me. I am thinking maybe it doesn't work for some of you either.
So long story short the "Off Kilter" project will be a list of the things I go out of balance to achieve. Doubling will be a subset of the project.
Finally the last thing I have been doing is digging out of the snow. We have had over a foot here.
Anyway, enough rambling for one post.

Step 7 - Update #2
Hi Everyone,
Its been a busy wekend and I am finally gettting a few minutes to post. On Friday I found 2 cents at the Quick Check, then yesterday I found a penny at the ice skating rink while at practice with my daughter, and last but not least I found a penny in the supermarket today while picking up last minute snacks for the game.
I don't really care who wins the game, as all our local teams did not make it. However, I have a weird feeling that the Saints are going to win. I don't know why. Anyway, I am going to watch the rest of the game. All of you football fans out there ENJOY!!!

Step 6 - Completed
Hi Everyone,
Yesterday was music lesson day for my kids. When we got there I could not find a parking spot. I had to park all the way down the street.
When I stepped out of the car I noticed something shiny sticking out from under a small pile of snow. I went over to check it out. It was a nickle.
Therefore, I added 4 cents to my stake to complete Step 6 and (in keeping with the rules) the remaining cent was added to the surplus.

Is Any Of This For Real - Part One
Hi Everyone,
A few posts back I mentioned my realization that finding money on the ground would probably not take me past the first steps of the double your way to a million process.
Therefore, I decided to start to look at additional ways to add to my stake. I decided to check out the different ways to make money online. There are a number of these. Actually there are so many that it can become overwhelming.
There are tons of e-courses etc.(some seem like total scams) if you want to get more information. I decided that this blog would be a good platform to try some of these methods and see if they are for real. But how to do them with out using up all of my small stake was the question.
So in keeping with the spirit of doing things for free I decided to see if any of this info could be obtained without paying for it. The short answer is yes. Many of the folks selling stuff will send you free information to entice you to buy their latest product. What this means is that you can get some of the older courses, videos, etc. for free.
If you would like to follow along with me and try to duplicate what I am trying, you will need an e-mail account that the free items can be sent to. I would suggest setting up a separate account (gmail would be perfect for this), as once you start your inbox will soon become flooded with information. If you do not know how to set up a gmail account click here.
Please note that many of the items you will be sent will be teasers to get you to buy something. However, I have started to do this and if you have the patience to sift through everything you will find some tidbits of useful information here and there. I am going to stop here before this post gets too long.
So to recap the first step is to set up a gmail account (click the link above if you don't know how). In the next installment of "Is Any Of This For Real" I will tell you how to find the free information.

Another Doubling Friend
Hi Everyone,
We had a bit of snow here in NJ today. My kids were thrilled as school opening was delayed by 2 hours.
Anyway, I was out and about but have not come across any additional money to add to my stake. Therefore, I was quite happy when I logged into my blog and noticed I had another follower.
Welcome aboard Gritech!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, I've got to get the kids to dancing and ice skating. Hopefully I will add to my stake while I am out.

Step 6 Update
Hi Everyone,
I just got back in from driving my kids to dance lessons and wrestling practice. While I was out I decided to stop into the supermarket to pick up something for dinner (yes we end up eating dinner late as we don't get to eat until everyone returns from their activities).
Two good things happened at the supermarket.
First off, I ran into an old friend from a former job. He happens to work with the type of systems I need to brush up on for an upcoming job interview. He said he would give me a crash course on the system prior to my interview.
Second, I found a dime on the floor when checking out. This means six more cents to go until I complete Step 6.
To summarize:
Current Step: 6
Total Stake: $.26 Total Surplus: $.12
Amount required to complete step $.06

This Thought Just Popped Into My Head
Hi Everyone,
As I was completeing the last post something occurred to me. When I first started this I didn't expect to find much. Maybe this was because the rules tell you to find a penny. After the first step I kept finding pennies.
Then at the end of Step 4 I found a dime. I think my mindset/expectation changed a bit after that. Then this morning I found another dime.
What I am getting at is that maybe your expectations play a part in determining the outcome. Maybe once you expect more you subconciously start to look for and notice more.
Let me know what you think about this theory.
Until Next Time... (I think I will expect to find quarters and see what happens)

Step 5 completed
Hi Everyone,
As you know from previous posts I am currently looking for work (I have been out of work since the end of December). It is going slow so I have gotten a bit frustrated and short tempered.
As I am now home in the morning I have been getting the kids out to school. Today my son was late, missed the bus, and was still taking his sweet American time about getting out the door. In my short tempered state of mind I yelled at him and pushed him along.
When we got to the school he was too late to walk in on his own. I had to go in with him to sign him in. I hate doing this as they ask you for a reason why the child is late. My son has been late a number of times recently and I am running out of things to tell them.
Anyway while walking back to the car I found a dime on the ground in the parking lot. Guess there was some value in my son being late afterall.
In keeping with the rules I added 8 cents to the stake to complete Step 5. The remaining 2 cents was added to the surplus.
To summarize:
Current Step: 6
Total Stake: $.16 Total Surplus: $.12
Amount required to complete step $.16

Hi Everyone,
Yesterday while purchasing the Sunday paper at the local quick check, I found a dime on the floor by the ATM machine. In keeping with the rules I added one cent to the stake and the remaining 9 cents to the surplus.
I have noticed that people must drop change at ATM machines and by the self checkout lanes that most stores now have. This is where I keep finding the loose change.
Anyway I am on to Step 5.
To summarize:
Current Step: 5
Total Stake: $.08 Total Surplus: $.10
Amount required to complete step $.08
